OUGD503 - Studio Brief 03 - Collaborative Practice

Researching into the brief

We both sat down and established that in order for a rebrand of Grand Cafe Coffee we needed to create a new logo and then add this to various promotional products ranging from, packaging and coffee cups, to posters etc. Next we decided on the concept behind the design of the logo. The concept being that we wanted to portray it as a luxury brand. I decided to create the logo myself then develop it further with the feedback from my collaborative partner. We researched a few existing logos together to enable me to get some design inspiration and filter through some ideas.

After getting some inspiration I started to develop the logo design for Grand Cafe coffee.

Seen above are a few of the design developments for the coffee logo, I varied from using sans serif to scripted fonts to create connotations of a luxury high quality coffee brand. But, considering the feedback that my partner gave me in relation to the scripted font designs, was that it reminded her of a hotel as "Grand" was the main word visible not coffee and in scripted font. Initially i thought this was the better visually appealing design due to our concept however I listened  to that feedback and it instantly made me change the type into a scripted highly kerned sans serif font. After Various developments we both decided on our final logo which was updated and vectorised into illustrator to ensure it was high quality which my partner showed me to do and taught me a few things on illustrator which I didn't previously know which improved my skill set in an instant. (Final Logo below)
